This is the compilation of what I've been doing in Character Design class this year. The objective was to illustrate a set of characters based on the theme (this year it was Greek myths) using influences from the style of a particular professional artist.
The artist I chose was Jackson Publick (creator of The Venture Brothers). I'm not sure how effectively I captured his style, but I had fun with these nonetheless. This was really the first time I've ever done a substantial amount of cartoon human art so it was quite a challenge for me.
From left to right: Cerberus, Telemachus, Odysseus, Athena, Tiresias, and the Chimera.

Cute!!! These look very professional! I love how the Chimera goat is like, "I'm combined with a lion?! This is BS!" and Odysseus is like, "Hells yes I look like Gerard Butler." I also love the transition of color in the Cerberus's tail.
Yup, based the colors off of theirs. Didn't want to rip it off completely but obviously was trying to draw influences from the VB art so I did a twist on the original.
I just realized that there's a bit of Venture's skull in Tiresias, isn't there? Again, as I've said, too cool. I love how you revamped Cerberus to be even more awesome.
"...I know it sounds weird, I let him do it because it feels great. Oh yeah. The problem is that I can taste it. So, I taste my own genitals. In my mouth. It's a... conundrum."

It would not be complete if I didn't toss Dr. Venture's bald head in there somewhere.
And yeah, I love the shows human designs but aren't as keen on the animals so I tweaked that a bit. Gave him more of the fun angles that the VB human characters have.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
