Pomeranian: Cover

I'm taking a class this semester called Comics and an American Literature. It's a pretty spiffy class that conveniently fullfills one of my liberal arts requirements. And, being that I go to art college, our final assignment is to create our own mini-comic or graphic novel of a minimum of 8 pages.

I've begun writing out the story for mine and will begin roughing out panel layouts soon, but for now I decided to get the cover done. This is the only part of the comic that will be in color.

My teacher was specific about the subject matter in that he didn't want anything that was overdone (i.e. no sci-fi, fantasy, or superheroes). I asked if animals were okay. He said funny animals were pretty overdone as well. I asked, "What if they're not funny?" thinking I was going to do some war-story using my kalnarin characters (Kaid and Theore) and his response was, "Do you mean sad animals? Yeah, sad animals would be okay." That inspired this idea. Much as I'd love to do the kalnarin story, it'd be way too time-consuming. This story is easier for me to flesh out and the drawings are in a simpler style.

No elaboration on plot yet, I'll let that reveal itself as I upload the comic pages (which I will do as I complete them). For now I'll just say that it's sort of an opinion-piece based on some of my own real-life observations of the dog-ownership world.
