Daily Deviation, 2007-11-28

Daily DeviationSenior Portfolio 02 by =spiritwolf77 is placed at a canted angle which really helps draw the viewer into the characters' situation. There seems to be a bit of nervous tension here.... (Suggested by *Butch007 and Featured by `cooley)

"We humans fear the beast within the wolf because we do not understand the beast within ourselves."
~ Gerald Hausman
There's something very ominous about this work, not just in the tilted angle, but the concept of what appears to be a war scene. The two soldiers, but a lack of bodies on either side, only fires in the darkness with rain just starting to fall. Gives one a feeling of solitude and insecurity, yet in contrast, as long as they have each other, they can watch each other's backs. Really adds a distinct flavour to the infamous phrase "War is hell."

In addition to being a great artist, you're also a great storyteller. You are able to communicate a lot with one picture. Better yet, you don't show anything that isn't necessary to get the point across. There's no need for blood or dead bodies to tell us that those two are in a war zone; uniforms, a weapon, explosions and rain tell us that. The characters' expressions are remarkable, conveying fear and determination at the same time. A work of art, indeed. Fantastic job.

This is way beyond awesome. I agree with all the commenters who are amazed that you are able to convey the horrors of war without any masses of dead bodies and blood lying around, and the angle you chose to tilt the picture at helps to bring out even more then sense of chaos.

Just ooooooooone tiny question: is the rain supposed to have just started falling, or, like me, are clueless as to how to tackle wet fur?

Doesn't really matter either way in the end. :D

Thankye!

The rain just started, thus the fires still smoking in the background and the little droplets appearing on the characters. Although I admit part of the reason I set it up like that, as opposed to having it be a while after the rainfall is I do hate drawing wet fur. Especially in a scene like this. Kaid and Theore look a bit comical with wet mops of hair and I felt that'd take away from the tension in the scene.
Very nice! I loe their expressions and the fire effects in the background. <3
